Lord Shiva
I wish I could spoil his meditation.
This is a mural made for the occasion of Shiv Ratri in P4 Hostel Room 212.
This was an experiment along with the pressure of completing it within a day and a half as the Idol of Lord Shiva was to be placed before it on the day of Maha Shiv Ratri!
The painting process felt like a tranquillity. After a lot of discussion with a fellow friend of mine named Barenya, we came to a conclusion that the background will be made using a triangle structure. He was the model reference for me.
It was a fine afternoon when I started it and was not at all happy after the initial sketch I made, but there was no U-turn for me. I got stuck on "let's see what it ends up to!"
The initial layer of colours was on the wall. It was not at all good-looking to me. I feared criticism. Friends passing by the room told me that it's looking like a feminine character whereas according to them Lord Shiva only depicts the strong masculinity. But ignoring them I continued with a fear in my heart.
I decided to create this painting with some specialty I have never observed before. So the experiments I did in this painting are:-

1. To create a triangle at the back where I only saw enlightened circles and sceneries behind any picture of Lord Shiva.
2. I have never seen Him sitting on a lotus.
3. I have never seen Him sitting for a meditation in this posture.
4. I have never seen Him with this type of elongated eyes specially seen in Jamini Roy's paintings.
5. I have never seen any painting with white eyebrows and white facial makeovers. So this was also an experiment.
6. Lastly I have tried to create a ray of light emerging from the hands.
Finally, when the first wave of hair was created it gave immense respect to the painting!
Isn't He gorgeous!
I placed the idol in the exact north at the first try and did the eye over the Idol. It felt dramatic.

It is one of the mural work on which I take immense pride!
